It is with heavy heart and great sadness that we share the passing of Rod Mantle. Rod passed away peacefully at the Huntsville Hospital on July 17, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Joanne and his three children Christine (Matt), Carrie (Greg) and Jamie (Jana). Rod was a devoted Grandfather and will be missed by his six Grandchildren Taylor, Paige, Jayden, Joshua, Landon and Oliver. He is also survived by his brothers Rick (Edythe) and Robert (Jackie) and his nieces and nephew Ashley, Kayla, Ryan and Danielle.
Rod had a great love for sports, especially swinging a club on the golf course, and he had a great way of telling a story or sharing a memory by giving each one his own personal stamp of humor so we would be sure to never forget them. He cherished the importance of family and stretched that beyond his own to include many friends and co-workers.
Rod’s family would like to invite family and friends to a visitation and service at Billingsley Funeral Home on Friday July 20th beginning at 12pm starting with a visitation and a service following at 2pm. All are invited to attend his burial at Hutcheson Cemetery following the service and a small reception will follow at Billingsley.
THE GOLF COURSE IN THE SKY
As eighteen flags flew at half mast, and
Glasses were soberly raised high
The latest member was having a ball
At the golf course in the sky
Freed from the gravity of the situation
The first tee shot soared through space
Bringing a wondrous, beaming smile
To a kind, down to earth face
Surrounded by old club friends
Once thought never to be seen again
The infinity course beckoned ahead
Eighteen holes were for mere mortal men
